The Big tree was planted some 140 years ago, where it stood as the gateway to Paignton, in the grounds of Romalyn, where the large house still stands. It has seen many a traveler along the road to the fishing port of Brixham from Paignton, but sadly the 92 foot giant succumbed to disease and old age, and the old tree had to be taken town. Still not forgotten, as seats are now carved into the remaining girth, so people can still rest and use the tree as a place to meet, as in the past.
